However I beg to disagree that the Bhai Tika is a form of female empowerment. On the contrary it still rests upon the logic of praying for the long life and well being of the brother, who is the male member and the orignial heir, no matter how good or better off the sister would be sons will be sons.
Second, it premises upon the logic of the female having to fast the whole day for the purity of the rituals to be performed.
Third, females have to be pure by hook or by crook on the auspicious day to perform the rituals meaning a lot of girls rush to medical stores to have their mentrual cycles postponed which results in endless gynaecological problems later to the extent of being infertile which again results in the women being blamed for not being able to produce an heir.
Lastly there is not one day where the male members perform similar rituals for the long life of the sisters.
So I beg to disagree and ruin the idea but in our society, women are anything but empowered.
