Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal has confirmed her retirement from competitive badminton at the age of 35 today.

Nehwal's illustrious career has been nothing short of inspirational, paving the way for a new generation of Indian shuttlers. Here are some of her major achievements:

WE REMEMBER: Prashant Tamang - a True Gorkha Son

Prashant Tamang will always be remembered for being many things - a gifted singer, an actor, a dedicated police official, a loving son, husband, and father, a loyal student, and the face that united people and rekindled the Gorkhaland movement.

Yet, above all, he will be remembered as a true son of the soil.

In a video recorded during the Gorkhaland agitation, Prashant Tamang is seen being thankful to everyone who stood for the movement. He reassures the people that he stands with them equally and promises to do everything within his capacity for Gorkhaland and for his people.

He is seen urging for unity - reminding everyone of how collective strength once brought them together to make him the Indian Idol winner and calls upon that same spirit to continue the struggle.

While others may forget, WE REMEMBER.

Letter to the Editor: Negligence by municipality causing continuous wastage of potable water

One of our readers wrote to us about the continuous wastage of potable water caused by the negligence of the Municipality in addressing a leaking water pipe.

He writes: “This is to bring to serious notice the complete negligence and irresponsibility of the Darjeeling Municipality. For over a month, a water pipeline beneath the road at Bhutiya Busty (below Chowrasta) has been leaking continuously, causing massive wastage of potable water.

The leakage is located just above the Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das residence, “Step Aside”, and has already damaged the road surface. Continuous seepage has made the area highly vulnerable, posing a real and immediate risk of an unseasonal landslide. This stretch is used daily by pedestrians, and any mishap will be the direct result of municipal inaction.
Repeated delay reflects poor workmanship, lack of monitoring, and complete disregard for public safety and natural resources. If immediate inspection and repair are not carried out, the authorities will be fully responsible for any accident, injury, or loss of life that may occur.”
