Vedant Basnett, NEET AIR 2417

A young scholar Vedant Basnett, a permanent resident of Reshep Bazaar, Mungpoo has performed exceptionally well in NEET 2025 exams. We sat down for a short interview with him.

Name: Vedant Basnett.
Mom: Yangzi Sherpa.
Dad: Late Bali Basnett.
School: Modi Public School, Siliguri.

TheDC: What motivated you to sit for NEET? Did you always want to become a doctor?
Vedant: I always had an interest in the medical field. Moreover, after I shared with my mother about my interest, she played the most important role in motivating me to work towards my goal and prepare for NEET.

Also, my sister being from the medical field influenced me and I started to admire the field as a whole. After my 12th, I had decided that I’d become a doctor.

TheDC: Were your family members supportive of your choice?
Vedant: After hearing my interest, they were the ones who motivated me to pursue this field. So it is given that I had their full support during my entire preparation.

The maximum amount of support was given by my uncle Upendra Lama. My mother is out of the country, so I live with my uncle and my sister. And he has supported me the most, by being there, always reminding me to study, making me sleep on time, waking me up before my classes and much much more. He is the one person I am the most indebted to.

TheDC: How did you prepare for NEET? Please detail your journey.
Vedant: I joined Aakash institute, Siliguri and took a one year course there. As for my studies, from around late December I started to do approximately 8 hours of self study daily, for at least 5 days a week, post coaching which was around 6 hours long.

My study sessions mostly consisted of reading the NCERT books and practicing questions from the coaching module. I was able to score a good rank because I prepared this way.

TheDC: What were the initial hurdles you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Vedant: In the beginning, things were quite tough. My marks weren’t satisfactory at all. One of the main reasons for this was, of course, my mobile phone. As soon as I realised this reason, I locked the phone up. After I did that, my marks started going up, and I was able to sit for longer study sessions.

TheDC: Which college have you aimed for and why?
Vedant: I’m aiming to get into AIIMS because It is the most prestigious government medical colleges in India, and I know that there, I’ll be guided properly into becoming a good and a sincere doctor.

TheDC: If you had the power to change one thing in your preparation, what would it be and why?
Vedant: To be honest, I don’t think I’d like to change anything in my preparation at all, I’m very satisfied with what I got and I’m happy with myself. I don’t have any regrets.

TheDC: What advice would you give to those who want to follow your footsteps?
Vedant: It is often said that “consistency is the key to success” and it is said for a good reason. One can crack NEET only through consistent efforts and hardwork.

I’d say the same thing to future NEET aspirants, be consistent, be determined and have that flame within you which drives you to keep trying harder. And of course, it goes without saying that there are no shortcuts, you need to study anything and everything in your syllabus, the exam you’re preparing for is NEET so please be consistent solemnly.

Rest, the results will shine on its own.

TheDC: Where do you see yourself, five years from now?
Vedant: Well, the MBBS course is quite rigid so there are not a lot of different possible scenarios that I see myself in. The course takes 5.5 years to complete, so, I think I’ll be doing an internship after 5 years. However, I would see myself as a learned and skilled doctor after the course.

TheDC: Any words of advice for the youths of our region?
Vedant: As for advice, what I’ve already said before applies to the youths of our region as well. Advice aside, I’d like to see more toppers coming out of our hills as well. I’d like for them to work harder and rank even higher than me. Because, if I can, my fellow juniors from our hills also can.

We wish Vedant GOOD LUCK in his endeavours and we are hopeful, his story will inspire thousands of our youths to take up their vocation sincerely.
