Atharva Singh adds New Bird species to the bird list of India

TheDC team send a warm “Shout Out” to Atharva Singh, a proud son of Darjeeling for etching his name in the annals of Birding in India and also for keeping the Darjeeling flag flying high. Atharva is part of a team of scientists from Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai, who while exploring the high-altitude coniferous forests of Arunachal Pradesh, has recorded a rare species of bird which has been identified as the Three-banded Rosefinch after detailed observations.



Dead Fishes Create a Stink in Mirik

Yesterday, a few social media pages has posted news of dead fishes in Mirik lake and speculations had ran rife as to the cause of these fish deaths. While the famous Mirik lake has seen its share of deaths due to pollution in the past, this time around though, the cause of deaths has created a definitive political stink.

Bhasa Sangrami Shri. Gopal Singh Bhandari

His association with literature brought him in close contact with the who’s who of the Nepali Bhasa Manyata Andolan, in which he was an active participant. His articles and write-ups in Hindi and Urdu languages made people outside Darjeeling region aware of the plight of Nepali speaking Gorkhas. A dedicated foot soldier of Gorkha cause, Gopal Singh Bhandari openly supported the demand for Gorkhaland even as a Government servant. The then Govt of West Bengal transferred him to Krishnanagar as a punishment, following which he had resigned, but later the government relented.
