Sonada: Two teams of Radio Salesian 90.8 FM – The Voice of the Hills radio journalists headed to Singhell Tea Estate while the second team of Radio Journalists (RJ) went to Sittong via Bagoda, Saturday 27 April 2019.

Singhell is a scenic destination close to both Kurseong and Darjeeling surrounded by Alpine trees and tea estate at an altitude of 5000 ft above sea level.

The RJs received a very warm welcome from the local Radio Salesian listeners.

“We were welcomed by the locals with much joy and great gratitude,” said Radio Salesian program Coordinator RJ Samir. As Community Radio, it is our duty to focus on the welfare and development of the society,” RJ Samir said emphasizing the role of community radio.

He did not hesitate to state the main motive of the RJ Team visit, “was to make the bond stronger between Community Radio and the people.” One of the ardent Radio Salesian fan Miss Purnima confessed, “Radio Salesian has become an important part of my daily life.”

While RJ Dikshit interviewed the local youths for his weekend show Yuwa Aawaj, RJ Smriti interviewed local farmers at Singhell TE and RJ Rejina interviewed the children for Bal Manjari, the popular Sunday morning show for children.

The second group consisting of RJ Samir and RJ Moses visited Sittong some 54 km from Darjeeling. RJ Samir interviewed writer/critic Prof. Mehermaan Subba and RJ Moses interviewed singer/composer Silash Phipon. Sittong is an area very famous for its orange cultivation, during the winter months the entire area turns orange color with its orange gardens. lace is nicely located with a view of the surrounding hills.
