71 Year After Independence – People Forced to Carry Their Sick and Infirm at Night in Hope Gaon, Dhajey, Darjeeling

Even 71 years after Independence, the people in various parts of the Darjeeling region have remained deprived of the most basic of infrastructure. Here is a video showing how the villagers in Hope Gaon, Dhajey Tea Estate are forced to carry their sick, and infirm to the hospital.

Our reader Param Thapa, who sent us this video wrote…

We are sending you this video from Hope gaon, in Dhajey Tea Garden. There is no road access to our village, because of which we are forced to carry our sick this way. Our numerous requests for a road have only been met with assurances. So many politicians have come and gone, our village is yet to be connected with a road.

In 1986 agitation two sons from our village were martyred. Was their sacrifice not even worthy of a road?”
