‘Baimaan Pahadbasira’ – Who’s Your Daddy Now?

Yesterday, when I read the news about TMC Mouthpiece Khaar 365 Din labelling the hill peole “Baimaan Pahadbasira”, I laughed my butts off. Literally, I could hear the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of TMC and their proxies being shattered into a million pieces, and every piece crying out loud… “Baimaan Pahadbasira”.

Why Kurseong and Mirik Municipality Councillors Should Resign

In fact, two of the tallest TMC/BT faction leaders from the hills Mirik Municipality Chairman LB Rai, and current GTA Chairman Anit Thapa, couldn’t help Amar Singh Rai win even in their respective booths. Imagine a scenario, where they don’t have the trust or support of people from their own neighbourhood, yet are leading constitutional bodies.

The curious case of “Chota Tiger Hill”

What I had learnt is that in order to save a little time on the return journey, some of the tour operators on purpose does not want to reach the the actual view point and apparently park their vehicles haphazardly on the way causing a traffic jam.

The Curious Case of Nicol Tamang

This article traces the arrest and subsequent disappearance of Nicol Tamang – who was and remains the prime accused in the Madan Tamang assassination case. The facts of this case are so convoluted, only the dumb or the willing will accept there was no conspiracy behind the assisination and disappearance of Nicol Tamang. Chances of security agencies, or at least their officers involved in the investigations and cover up is apparent for all to see.

Bitter Sweet Andolan Memories – 1986-88

The mayhem went unabated for over 2 hours. Many people who were perhaps just sitting at their house were brutally beaten up. Later we found out that there was this 18 year old daju, who was chopping meat in his house, he had a khukuri in his hands when the CRP entered. Thankfully the CRP for some reason did not shoot him, but he got arrested on the charges of “possession of weapons” and was so brutally beaten that I still shudder when I think about it.

Sandakpu: A reflection on a walk some moons back

For Conrad said “you know yourself only when away from the safety of social trappings, faced with the elements of nature and nothing to fall back on but yourself, you discover then whether you are weak or strong.” I tested myself and found I was a mixture of both with a wee bit more of the strong side. There still is much of life left in me. More of arches to cross; the time for me to sit and contemplate has not begun.

Bipul Chettri’s Teesta – Quintessential Call to the Roots

My younger brother who also stays in another city shared the link of Bipul Chettri’s “Teesta” with me stating “tero buhari le pathako – your younger sister-in-law shared”. As soon as I heard the song, I in my imagination, rushed back home, to a place where my brother and I share the same meal of Gundruk and Bhaat in the evening where pine trees in the hills of Delo or Tigerhill sway to the winds of Chaita.
