After meeting Gorkhas from various corners of Eastern Himalayan states, looking at the glorious history of Darjeeling and associating it with them, one would be amazed how Darjeeling Hills spread over an area of little less than 2500 sq km has always come to the rescue of millions of Gorkhas living hundreds of miles away from mayalu pahad.
Saharman Dewan was born in Ging Tea estate to Shri Harka Bahadur and Suklachhi Dewan on 16th of July 1939. He was only 6 years old when his father passed away, and was brought up by his aunt (mother’s sister) and her loving husband. Losing a father so early in life was difficult, but Saharman persevered with the help and support from his new family. Under their guidance, Saharman studied up to class 8 at Ging Primary School and finished his schooling from Rama Krishna Educational Institute (RKPS).

The 32-year-old self-made chef, who currently runs a restaurant in Chennai by the name “Dalley”, has been successful in impressing the judges in the show with his impressive skills in the kitchen.
I don’t know much about the markets in other hill regions like Kalimpong, Kurseong, Sikkim etc, but I am astounded and shocked to hear the prices of apparels in Darjeeling nowadays, as we say in our lingo “Tarsiney daam”.
The construction of the school was handed to a group of boys from the locality. These boys are affiliated to GJMM (Binay faction). Their motive is just to earn profit. The old structure was dismantled but the cemented flooring of the old building was not touched. New pillars were erected but if you dig the floor you will not find any tie bim below.
The Dumping Chute is burning in Darjeeling and there has been some amount of talk about it, not as much as I expected but also a bit more than the previous years.
6th Schedule of our constitution makes separate provisions for the administration of tribal areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. These provisions have been made in exercise of the enabling provisions given in Articles 244 (2) and 275 (1) of the Constitution. The objectives are to maintain a distinct identity and exclusiveness of tribals.
