Rekha Sharma, the President of National Commission for Women, through a series of tweets expressed her angst against the Darjeeling District administration.
Rekha Sharma had arrived in Darjeeling 2 days ago to investigate into the Women Rights violations in Darjeeling through the Gorkhaland agitation period of more than 100 days.
While she is still in the town, she claims she had wanted to meet the DM and the SP of Darjeeling District as a part of the investigation process, both of whom didn’t come up.
“DM Darjiling is not ready to come to meet me… administration is working overtime to stop victims and complainants to meet the @NCWIndia. I can imagine what must have happened in those 105 days.”, she wrote in one of her tweets.

She also claimed that she had already started meeting the victims who briefed her on the stories of police atrocities on women and families in Darjeeling. She wrote, “Last night many of the victims came and met me in hotel… horrible stories of police atrocities on women and families in Darjaling @WBPolice”

Earlier, the Nari Morcha loyal to Binay Tamang faction had expressed their displeasure and protested the visit of Rekha Sharma in Darjeeling on her arrival with placards, some of which had actually praised Darjeeling and Kalimpong Police.
Meanwhile, GJM President Bimal Gurung today released an audio in which he has welcomed Ms Rekha Sharma to Darjeeling and thanked those who brought her to Darjeeling. He condemned the protest by women loyal to Binay Tamang, he said, “I know the and they shouldn’t have protested that way, she is here to examine atrocities committed by Bengal against us, and instead of protesting against it, we should help her by telling about all the atrocities committed against us.”
